Rent the Jones House
The Jones House
Community Center is available for rent for a variety of purposes to serve
the needs of Watauga County organizations, communities and individuals. Uses
of the Jones House typically fall into one of four categories:
-
Local Government Uses
– The building can be used for meetings or receptions for governmental
purposes but the event must be sponsored by the governmental authority,
scheduled by the Jones House staff, and all required paperwork completed and
filed at the time the event is scheduled.
-
Community Non-Profit
Groups – Non-Profit groups frequently use the building for meetings,
receptions, and events. On occasion, the Jones House Community Center
Advisory Board may choose to waive rental fees. However, sound fees and
deposits (if appropriate) are still required. All uses must be scheduled
with the Jones House staff and approved by the Executive Director in
writing. Donations may be accepted for such events if evidence of the
non-profit status of the organization is presented along with the
application.
-
Private Events (under
25 persons) – These small-scale events must be approved by the Executive
Director and require that a refundable deposit be paid in advance.
-
Larger Private or
Public Events: Although the building interior is limited to 50 persons due
to building code requirements, this limit can be expanded to 99 by adding a
port-a-john to supplement our two restrooms or by holding an indoor/outdoor
event. Many wedding receptions and larger community events utilize the
beautiful lawn and therefore reduce the numbers of people who choose to be
indoors. Rented tents are often used as additional shelter options in case
of a surprise rain shower. For indoor/outdoor events only one deposit is
required, but the rental forms for both indoor and outdoor events must be
submitted. All plans must be approved by the Executive Director and it is
advised that you confer with the staff as early as possible in order to
ensure that there are no conflicting events or activities planned.
Below are six
different application packages that can be used to submit an official
request to use the Jones House Community Center. Each package contains two
or more forms to fill out and sign as well as information documents to
review.
All uses of the building must be approved by the Executive Director. For
most events, this requires that you contact us to obtain an appointment with
the Director to discuss the details of your plans. If your event involves
the serving of alcohol please check with the Executive Director as to
whether this will be allowable and what permits will be required. If your
event involves a march, walk, or parade to or from the premises you are
required to contact City Hall regarding these arrangements and to file
copies of all completed paperwork, permits, or other documentation along
with your application to use the facility.
Please refer to the fee schedule (with forms below) to determine the costs
for your particular event:
Procedures and information for using the Jones House Community
Center for your event:
1) Review the usage policies to ensure that your proposed event will be
appropriate for the building. If you are unsure, please check with the Jones
House Director.
2) Clear the date with the Office Manager by calling 828-262-4576 between
noon and 5:00 pm, Tuesdays through Fridays.
3) Print out the forms listed below for your planned event.
4) Complete the forms (call us if you have questions). If you would like to
fill out the forms on your computer (and we prefer that you do), fill-in
formats are available. Of course, signatures must be done the old fashioned
way - in ink on paper. Contact us if you have difficulty in downloading the
forms. Paper copies can also be picked up at the Jones House.
5) Make an appointment with the Jones House Director to review the details
of your event and to secure permission to hold your event at the Jones
House.
6) Bring the completed forms and your deposit and rental fees with you to
your appointment. Checks may be made out to the Town of Boone or the Jones
House Community Center. All funds will be deposited with the Town of Boone.
Please do not publicize your event until this step is completed and the
director has signed your forms.
7) Additional forms may be required, depending upon the plans for your
event. These will be provided by the staff as needed.
8) Following your event, the Jones House staff will notify the town's
Finance Office to refund your deposit minus any expenses withheld for
damages or cleaning. (Typically, receiving a full refund requires leaving
the Jones House in the same condition as you found it.)
9) If you would like to share digital photos of your event with us we would
be very grateful and can use them on our website or to assist others in
planning their events. Please email them to
joneshouse@charterinternet.com.
